If you are charged with a crime, the arraignment is the first criminal court event that you will face. At the arraignment the criminal complaint will be read to you. Essentially, the criminal complaint sets out the charges that you will be facing. Aside from hearing the official charges that you will be facing, the arraignment is also a time to deal with two other issues. One immediate issue the court will deal with is bail and terms of release. The court could order that you be released on a number of different terms including: stay away order, no contact order, GPS monitoring, to remain drug and alcohol free, don’t drive, or abide by a restraining order to name a few.
